We’d love to have you participate in creating our weekend of celebration and fun! Here are some ideas, and we’re open to further suggestions.

Rather than having a day of scheduled events, we’ll be setting up “activity zones” for people to float to as desired on Friday and part of Saturday. We’re looking for inspiration, resources, and some “team leaders” to check in on the more involved stations. So far, we’re tentatively planning:

arts and crafts: The big project will be decorating our CENTERPIECES for the reception with abstract and/or diorama-like scenes. We’ll bring a lot of supplies, but would also welcome your donations or expertise. If there’s an additional craft project you’d be especially interested in spearheading, please let us know!

sports: Are you sporty? We are not. Please help us out if you can orchestrate a specific or general athletic pastime. We are taking suggestions for equipment to obtain/borrow and bring. Geek sports (quiddich?) also encouraged.

nature education: We’re trying to collect brochures and books about the local plants and wildlife to make available for self-guided hikes around the property. Do you have any resources about redwood forests or suggestions for good places to get them? Would you be excited to talk about this with people or lead a nature walk?

quiet time: There will be a designated reading/internet zone (near the office where there is wifi) for introverts and allies. This should be fairly self-sustaining, but if you can bring books to share or know you’ll want to hang out there, give us a shout.

for kids: Hopefully much of the above will be child-friendly, but it would be great to have advice/participation from kid-experienced folks too. Is there any particular activity or amenity for kids that you’d like to see or do?

p.s. There is also a swimming pool!

See this page for info.

There will be a screening/vidshow on Friday after dinner! In addition to autobiographical entries about Julie, Melissa, and Jpeg/Meme, we would love to premiere works by YOU. For the fan vidders, here is a prompt and a non-exhaustive list of sources that we adore:

prompt: CREATING FAMILIES + “deviant futures articulate temporalities other than those that reproduce the predictable dystopias of the present… the proposition of a queer future requires new ways of thinking about temporality itself” (from the introduction to DEVIANT FUTURES: QUEER TEMPORALITY AND THE CULTURAL POLITICS OF SCIENCE FICTION, a dissertation by Alexis Lothian)

TV: 30 Rock, Adventure Time, Arrested Development, Battlestar Galactica, Better Off Ted, Big Love, Bunheads, Community, Damages, Death Valley, Dexter, Doctor Who/The Sarah Jane Adventures/Torchwood, Don’t Trust the B—, Downton Abbey, Elementary, Farscape, H2O: Just Add Water, Hope Springs, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Lost Girl, Mad Men, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Nashville, NTSF:SD:SUV, Nurse Jackie, Once Upon a Time, Orphan Black, Parks and Recreation, Portlandia, Pushing Daisies, Rome, Sliders, Slings & Arrows, Star Trek: Voyager, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Good Wife, The It Crowd, The West Wing, The X-Files, Treme, True Blood, V, Veep, Veronica Mars, Warehouse 13, Weeds, Wonderfalls, Xena: Warrior Princess, Rachel Maddow
movies: John Waters films, Almodovar films, Miyazaki films, Roald Dahl books films, Across the Universe, Ma Vie en Rose, Me and You and Everyone We Know, Snoopy Come Home, Stranger Than Fiction, Teknolust, The Runaways, The Trouble with Angels, Up (our first date), Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, really any musical, any classical opera

Other types of videos in the spirit of our wedding, from the sincere to the avant garde, are also welcome! Comment here or email us if you have any questions.

We’re enjoying this occasion as an opportunity to unleash our creativity upon you, and we’re hoping you will as well! If you’re artistically inclined, any image of or related to us or this event would be an awesome present. We’d love to feature it in print materials that might include a welcome packet, program, or zine and/or on this website.

We’re also planning FACE PAINTING for Saturday, and seeking additional volunteer artists.

Please bring an instrument if you can! We’re recruiting musicians for before and during the ceremony, and there will also be opportunities for informal performances and jams (particularly around the bonfire — no amplified music is allowed outdoors after 10pm).

We’re figuring out the best way for you to upload your pics directed to this website or a related gallery — stay tuned…

We won’t have a professional videographer, so it would be wonderful to have YOUR short videos from the event. If you’re able to bring a more serious camera than a smartphone, that would be most welcome. If you don’t have a camera but have experience shooting, let us know — we are seriously considering renting a couple for you.
